Summer in a Nutshell (so far)

I’ve been incredibly busy this summer – instead of having my usual lazying around not really doing anything, so I’ve had a lot going on but not really the time to tell you. Or, really that should be, I’ve had the time but feel like just sleeping instead. :P

  • I bought my first car! I need a car now that I’m living in an off-campus apartment at school, so my dad and I went to look at a dealership at some used cars. We actually looked online first and I saw a car that I really liked and we went and looked at it and I just loved it. It’s a 2010 Hyundai Accent (picture below). It’s a small little thing, but it’s perfect for what I need. It was much more than I really wanted to pay (my original budget was $8,000) but the dealership didn’t have any decent cars at that price range without 100,000 miles on it. So anyhow, I decided I wanted to get it, we filled out the paperwork, I took out a small loan, and now I have my own car! :D
  • I’ve been working at my doctor’s office. That sounds a lot more exciting than it really is. I’m not doing anything medicall-y (as you can see in my last post, that is truly not a career option for me). I am going through all the old patient charts and entering their basic information onto a computer and determining when the chart can be destroyed. I then have to go back and organize them by destroy date. I have a small room that I work in and I just stuff it full of boxes and slave away over them all day. (It’s really not that bad, but it is tiring because I am constantly squatting or bending over the boxes.) I really like my hours though-I work from 9am to 3pm every day which is nice because I feel like I’m working a lot, but I still have time to enjoy my summer.
  • I started running. And I mean, really running. I used to run just every once in a while, but for the past three weeks I’ve gotten up every morning at 6:30am and started running (excluding one day each week I take as a rest day). I run about two miles and it’s not always easy, especially since I’m not a morning person, but I keep reminding myself that I haven’t missed a day yet and that I feel so much better/happier afterwards. I made a little chart/calender to track every day I’ve ran and if I’ve lost weight. So far I’ve lost five pounds! I’m going to sign up for a Color Me Rad 5k with my best friend and I’m really excited for it. I mean, who doesn’t want to run and have paint thrown at them?! ;)
  • I have avidly attended numerous Cardinals games. Which can I just say is awesome! Being at school in Kansas City, I can’t go to any games, nor can I usually watch them on TV. So being able to watch my favorite baseball team play is great. :) We’ve gotten a lot of cheap tickets and me and Andrew have gone quite a few times for fun dates. <3

I’m leaving for Puerto Rico on Saturday for a mission trip with my church. We’ll be there for a week and I can’t wait to share it all with you! :)

  1. Wow, it certainly seems that the summer has been busy for you and that can be a good thing. I know my own summer has been busy off and on but still, I’m so happy for you. Congrats on the new car! Also have fun in Puerto Rico! ^_^

  2. Nice car! :D Especially for your first one. It’s awesome that you can wake up so early in the morning to run 2 miles! o.o I tried getting up early too but I’m just too lazy to get up :( I want to run, but I’m afraid running in a ‘big’ city (not really big like NY or something but for me it’s big) alone lol.

Thanks for commeting on my blog! Bacon wasn’t my choice, but that from my boyfriend. He really wanted a guinea piggy with that name.

  3. Congratulations on your first car! It looks awesome :). I love having a car, it makes me feel so independent. I like working during the Summer as well, because I rather do something and earn money, than sitting at home doing nothing.
Congratulations on losing five pounds!! It’s amazing you’re running every day and you’re so dedicated! I really need to exercise :S.
    Have fun at Puerto Rico!

  4. Impressive! I love the color choice in the car! I remembered when I bought my first car a 1998 New Volkswagen Beetle. It didn’t have the sun-roof that I wanted but it had everything else and was great on gas! I don’t have it anymore due to my dad selling it to pay off a bill but eh, I can start saving up now!

My summer has been busy as well. I moved into my boyfriends grandparents home, and it was earlier this month. I’ll be able to start saving money again! WOO. I’ve had some drama (which I talked about in my post), but that’s what comes with the territory of living in an apartment. But I’m glad you’re able to work and just come to a nice apartment and not have to deal with anyone that you don’t want too!

You’re one lucky girl to have a job! I’m on Social Security due to my tremors/seizure like symptoms and panic/anxiety illness. I can still work and would love it, but everything I get from a paycheck comes out of my SSI. :/ . But anyways, I do love your car and I’m super jealous!

  5. Oh wow! That is a busy summer! You manage to get a lot done!! Congratulations on your new car! I still technically own my own, I have to share with my brother but it’s ok. At least it means it’s less petrol money to fork out.

I don’t remember the amount of times I said I’d go running… I need to find a route and just do it every week. It’s the summer and I need to shed some pounds before my friend’s wedding next year!

Have a lovely trip in Porto Rico!! <3

  6. It looks like you’re having a great summer so far! Congratulations on buying a new car! You’re lucky for being a sophomore and already buying a new car :). The hours of your job sounds nice since it’s on the regular hours of the day. You definitely have time to enjoy your summer! Better yet, you’re staying fit! Yay! Congratulations on losing 5lbs so far. I gotta do a color run one day! Or the neon run :P.

    Have fun in Puerto Rico!

  7. Congrats on the new car! I hope you didn’t have to take out a very big loan for it though, because cars are diminishing in value whilst your loan stays the same. Anyway, it’s great that you managed to find an appropriate car — car shopping can get so stressful and tedious sometimes!

Also good on you for running so consistently! It’s really hard to do and I know that I have never attempted such a feat myself purely because I don’t think I could hack it. Especially the part about waking up early, haha.

  8. Congratulations on your first car! The job at your doctor’s office sounds like it has nice, consistent hours!

Color Me Rad sounds really awesome and exciting! I wish I could run more. My knee goes out of place, and it causes a lot of pain, thus I don’t.

You seem to be enjoying your summer! Summer kind of flew by for me. :x

  9. AHHH You have your own car! I don’t have a car, it’s my dad’s but I get to drive it because he’s not here all the time. It would be so expensive to get a car!

Oh your job sounds quite alright for some experience. I work from 10AM – 4PM two week days and then I work a full day on Sat, so I have time to enjoy my summer too!

That’s great you started running! It sounds like a healthy way to lose a little weight.

OMG have fun in Puerto rico!

  10. Being busy may be tiring, but it feels kind of satisfying afterwards. I’ve been busy too, too busy to blog frequently, but you’ve found some time to do it. Congrats on getting your first car! I moved out to California and I don’t have one. I plan on getting on eventually, but I dunno when/how @.@ And I started exercising in the morning, it’s so awesome! I don’t do jogging, I would like to find time to fit it in, but I do mostly weight lifting @.@

  11. Yay for your first car :333 It does look cute and practical at the same time (as do you, hehe.) And your job hours do sound nice–six hours a day but still plenty of time in the afternoon/evening to do whatever you want!

Wow, Color Me Rad sounds awesome o: Running feels so fulfilling when you’re done, doesn’t it? Glad that’s been making you happy :D

The Cardinals games seem fun. (Though personally I’m not much of a baseball person.) Hope you’ve had fun with your missions trip!
