Days Grow Longer

I think I may have had the longest day at work today. x_x Normally there are one or two people that come in and are a little rude, but I’ve never actually had someone tell me to my face that I’m a bad employee. Sorry for doing my job, ma’am.

But then that’s what I keep telling myself, that this is only a job. And a part-time job at that, so I just keep doing what I’m doing. Plus, payday always makes the day a little bit better. :)

I don’t think I’ve talked about it yet, but I’m going on a mission trip with my youth group at church to Huntsville, Alabama. Down there we’ll be doing construction on houses that were hit by the tornadoes, but mainly we’ll be doing roofing. This is my sixth year going, not specifically to Alabama but on the mission trips, and I’m excited to be working on a roof. Every year I’ve always been on a painting site, which is fine, but it’s nice to change it up every now and then.

I remember two years ago there was one site that had painting and the rest were roofs. I got that painting job. :P But it’s not about me, so it doesn’t really matter!

We’re leaving tomorrow (or I guess technically today – it is 12:17 AM :P) and I’m still not done packing. I hate packing. Well, I’m mostly done. They packed the trailer with all of our suitcases tonight so I had to be done with my big suitcase by three before I went to work. My parents took it up for me; they’re so sweet. :)

So I just have some minor stuff to pack still. Things to do on the car ride (book, iPod, pillow, blanket) and things that I had forgotten (like shoes! Who forgets shoes!).

We’re leaving at 4:30 AM – which is absolutely too early. Some nights I’m not even in bed by then. x_x I’m hoping to get some sleep while I’m on the bus, but some of the middle school girls going on the trip I think don’t know what the word silent means. :P

I’ll be gone for a week, in which I most likely won’t have internet access. So when I come back I’ll have to tell you all about my trip! Just a small update to let you all know why I’ve temporarily disappeared. :)

  1. I’ve always wanted to join those missions like that. Helping people and stuff. However, my parents also think of my safety. As they say, it’s nice to be safe than sorry. But, I think today, as someone worth setting a bit free with my age, my parents would allow me.

Yeah, roofs are fun to be explored during construction. It’s like you’re on top of the world or something. And with painting, it’s more fun. Good for you to be placed there. :)

  2. It’s so nice of you to join the mission trip!! Helping people in need and giving back is always nice! :) Roofing sounds like hard work, but I’m sure that it’ll all pay off once you see the smiles on the faces of people you’ve helped :D Good luck packing the rest of your things and hope you have tons of fun!! :)

  3. I’ve never been to any mission trips, we don’t have anything as such in our temples and all…but i would really love to go and help some people in any manner I can…
It must be fun for you, a whole week! I just love travelling and usually me and my parents explore places which are not so tourist place, but calm and beautiful places!

    How are you?

  4. When I worked at Walmart, the customers there would always get so angry for me because I wouldn’t “bend the rules just a little bit” for them. I’m not as strong as you, and maybe I could have taken the pressure and whatnot if I hadn’t been going through so much away from work already. :P

Your mission trip sounds fun! I hope it goes safe and such, and that all goes well! :]

  5. I used to work in customer service, and it’s SO HARD. People can be so mean. But now that I had that experience, I tend to treat workers a lot better. And money is always nice, haha. xD

Have fun! In 8th grade (so . . . almost six years ago) I went with my church to Mississippi to do Hurricane Katrina mission work, and there’s something so satisfying about the project. Helping people gives you a rush you can’t get anywhere else. And I’m the world’s biggest procrastinator when it comes to packing. It’s not unusual for me to wait until the morning we leave. Whereas my mother is ready, like, two weeks beforehand.

And thank you for the kind words! ^^

  6. You have the right state of mind, a job is just a job. You can’t get upset about everything that happens at work. My motto is to just keep smiling.

Your trip sounds like a lot of fun. I never done a mission trip with my church, I hope you have a lot of fun!

  7. Oh wow, that is awesome. You’re doing something great :) I totally know what you mean when you say that is too early (to get up). It’s almost 4am right now and I’m still not asleep yet, LOL. I hope you have oodles of fun, and see you again when you come back :)

  8. People can be so rude sometimes. I was only rude ONCE at a Hollister because the manager pissed me off — it wasn’t the employees. I’m definitely not one to do this at all, but I kinda threw the clothes at him. He implied to my cousins that they can’t afford their clothes. Then he proceeded to tell me that if I don’t want the clothes to just leave (they were rung up incorrectly)

Anyway, I hope that doesn’t happen to you again. And yes, paychecks must be nice! Keep being strong and keep it up.

I would love to go on mission trips. I’ve always wanted to join Peace Corps. I hope you have fun, and I’m sure you’ll make a huge difference. That is really early but I’m sure it’ll be worth it. I can’t even stay up bast 11:30. I love my sleep!

Can’t wait to hear from your trip(:

  9. Wow! I hope you have a great trip. Sounds like it will be a lot of fun, and doing something good is always great!

Jobs are always a pain in the butt. People can be so rude nowadays! Some people just aren’t satisfied and it sucks.

I hate packing as well. I always leave everything til the last minute and always forget something!
