Another Year Older

On Thursday, April 7th, I turned 17. I always think it’s funny when people ask me if I feel any older. I never get that feeling, and I don’t think most people do either.

Instead, I feel like I’m 17, plus everything below. I’m still 16; I’m still 15; I’m still 12; I’m still 5; I’m still 3. But I’m also 17. Like, I have moments where I feel like I’m 3 when I hurt myself and I sit there and let my mom fix me up. Or, I feel like I’m 12 when I get into drama over silly things with my friends. Or I’m 10 because I just want the biggest piece of candy. It’s like as you grow older, you try and cover up your younger years. You’re still everything you were before, plus one. Not sure if I’m making sense. :P

Birthdays used to be such a big deal to me. I would always throw a party and invite all my friends and play games and eat cake and get presents. I would always beg my mom every year to let me have one. It was so important. But now, it’s not like that at all. I still like to do a little something, but just with a few friends.

So last night, Becky and Andrew took me out to dinner at my favorite restaurant, Applebee’s. They had invited a bunch of other people to surprise me, but I wasn’t really surprised because Andrew kept accidentally dropping hints all day that were pretty suspicious. Like in Physics, one of my friends came over and whispered something in his ear, and he just nodded. When I inquired about it, he just grinned at me. Then later on, he was texting one of our friend’s and he was being pretty secretive about it. Just little hints like that.

Either way, it was really fun and I received a few nice gifts, and it was great having those extra friends there. I don’t know what I’d do without my friends; they really are the best:

(Also, I got sour patch kids, and they are the best ever and ever and I’ve already eaten them all. :( And I got a stuffed animal bunny from Andrew, and it is the softest thing ever.)

  1. Happy late seventeenth birthday! Congratulations. (: It must be fun to be over sixteen. And you can go to rated R movies now! Whoop. The 7th was my friend’s birthday as well.

I do understand what you mean; age is accumulative. Some people are just better at hiding the previous ages than others. I can’t recall a birthday where I’ve had more than five or so friends over; I’ve never had one of those big things when fifty people go to the roller skating rink or anything. In recent years I’ve just had three or four of my closest friends over for a sleepover. This year I’m not even doing anything.

Aw, I’m glad you had such a great night! It looks like you guys had a lot of fun. It was nice of Becky and Andrew to do that for you! Surprise parties are always pretty fun… Yeah, I have some friends who aren’t good at keeping secrets either.

Mm, I love sour patch kids! I always get them when I go to the movie theatre. Aw, your stuffed bunny sounds cute.

  2. Yeah, I know what you mean. I usually don’t feel any older on my birthday, either. Okay, well, I guess there’s an exception because I did feel a little older on my 13th birthday, because being 13 gives you a lot more privilege on the internet, which I’d been craving for a few years, hehe.

In response to your comment on my blog:
Its not really annoying or anything, it just sort of makes me uncomfortable, finding him staring at me and stuff. But I dunno if I’d want to try to be his friend or anything because I dunno if he’s a total creep. I don’t really know anything about him other than that he’s stalking me. I dunno what to think. :S

Anyways, happy birthday! Hope you had a completely fantabulous day!

  3. Happy belated birthday (:! I hope you`re going to have fun being 17 (:

:O That happens when you just aged. Or had a birthday XD! “I still feel.. The same!” young and. Adventurous. :O! Regardless, I still feel 12 no matter what. I whine over things, I am.. Arrogant. And. I`m.. Odd. :O!

Seems like you had fun eating out for dinner :P! Guys are bad at planning surprises. Its the things that is embedded in the male gender :O!

The picture is cute :P! I love going out with a group of people ^__^!

I have added you on the new blog. The study group is like a survey type of thing :P!

I went to my friend’s prom last year. I had school :/. But I easily pulled it off. :D!

    Take care ;D

  4. Ah, that is true. There are some non scary R rated movies, though! Yeah, I am sure I had a party with that many people at some point. My birthday’s later this month.

  5. I always think that watching movies with people is more fun :O! I can never think of a situation when its fun alone. :O Unless its on tv/internet XD!

I don`t think people should act their age 100% of the time. We need our fun moments :P Or else we`d we dead stressed :(!

:O Those survey things on the sites work? I tried doing them back then, but I didn`t get much from it D:!

I didn`t really care back then XD I just wanted to get out of school, go to prom, then sleep. :O!

    Take care (:

  6. (Reply to comment on my site)
    Lololol. IT’S SO FUN. <33

    ….wait what's really cute? XD

    Oh happy birthday then! <33

Sound like you had an awesome birthday!! :D I want parties!! <333 They're so awesome! :D BIRTHDAYS ARE BIG DEALS TO ME BECAUSE I GET MONEY AND THEN I CAN SPEND THAT MONEY ON ANIME CONVENTIONSS!! <333

  7. Happy belated birthday! Ooh, I know exactly what you mean. I’m 18 but when I feel sad or afraid, I can feel like a little kid at times. It seems childish but there’s a lot of moments in life where you’re not an “adult” — you’re just a kid. Nobody can expect you to act grown up 24/7. o_o Which is why I like my boyfriend; he knows I’m a kid at heart and he likes that because he is as well. No fuss in acting mature when being a kid is obviously funner.

I’ve had birthday parties but it only involved family members. I can’t recall if I’ve ever had a party where I invited friends. I think I invited them but they never came. Heh. I don’t know how you could refuse free cake? I mean, really. I don’t care much for parties these days either. As long as I get cake, some kind of present (it’s the thought that counts), I’m all set.

    Glad you had fun. :)

  8. I guess the only time that there’s an exception to watching movies is when you’re watching it broadcasting in tv. :p or unless you’re in a bad mood ‘~’

I also hate it when people also act immmature all of the time :p. You have to have a mixture of both in order to be a fun and non-awkward person!!

Nice :p. I am guessing some sort of study research focus group ;o!

  9. did you have fun at your prom? what did you wear? hehe

and ya, we just have one prom – it’s all combined so we have freshman at our prom. but it’s ok :) we only have 230 kids in our high school :)

aww! HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY :) you sound like you had a great time! :) your friends are nice for “trying” to surprise you :) [trying, and failing… but tryng no less]

it was one of my best friends birthday today :) we somehow took THREE cakes into school for her :) one of them melted so much, we decide not to eat it and use it for “something” else.. nearly had a cake fight around our school! haha.
